PIP’S PUMPKIN PARTY / LESSON ONE

A pumpkin party.
Our sequence.

Help Pip make a sequence for his party.
What comes first? What happens next?

Sequence · First → Next → Last.

Hello, party friend!
WE ARRANGE. THE MACHINE FOLLOWS.

One idea: a sequence is an order of steps.

Children arrange three picture commands. The machine follows the pictures from left to right. At the first error it holds that result, gives one specific explanation, then unlocks the cards for retry. It does not execute later cards or add another final error explanation. The first pumpkin plan deliberately stamps before loading the pumpkin. Run it, observe the result, then swap cards.

Progression: watch and change Pip’s pumpkin plan → build an invitation plan → independently prepare treats → make a jam sandwich → plan the balloon task → make and share a paper program. Explain that changing the order can change the result, but some different orders both work.

Each party job opens with a mission card: read the goal, starting props and machine rules, then invite predictions before opening the activity. The card does not reveal a numbered answer. Use “Read our mission again” to revisit it without changing the picture program. Read stories and picture meanings aloud. Reading English is not required. Use the same refrain: “What is our sequence? First → Next → Last.” Invite children to point and say each step before Run; after a swap, ask what changed. Each machine starts fresh, so no earlier artifact is needed.

Allow 8 minutes for greeting, daily sequences and party plan; 25 minutes on five machines; 17 minutes making/testing; and 10 minutes sharing, comparing orders and inventing a daily sequence. Invite actions and explanations on the four new conversation pages. Morning routines may differ; judge the child’s stated goal and reason. Partners swap programmer and robot roles. Support with two cards already placed; extend by testing another order and explaining what changed.

Print the two-page picture-program kit ↗ · A4 landscape · 100% · headers/footers off. Precut cards. Use paper props and pretend actions.

Run freezes the cards and navigation. Stop cancels motion and voice; Reset scene keeps the cards; Clear cards starts a new plan. Slower pace gives more observation time. The original recorded Hello and approved natural cartoon feedback remain local audio assets.
